Emergency

The emergency room at Horton Community Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by trained and qualified providers.

Emergency room nurses hold ACLS, PALS and TNCC certifications. Full laboratory and radiology services are available on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Horton Emergency Medical Services

Prehospital emergency medical services provide treatment and transportation following injuries and other health emergencies. In rural areas where call volumes may not support a full-time paid service, volunteers play an essential role in emergency care.

Horton Emergency Medical Service is a department of Horton Community Hospital staffed by paid volunteers. Many team members have other full-time occupations or hold additional positions within the hospital.

The service includes Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians and paramedics. The Kansas Board of EMS classifies it as a Type 2A service, providing Basic Life Support with Advanced Life Support capabilities.

Patient transfers

Horton EMS can transfer patients from Horton Community Hospital to other facilities, including KU Medical Center, Children’s Mercy, St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka, Stormont Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka and Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.
